Applesauce!!

There are many new exciting adventures that you get to embark on with your little one.  The one I was looking forward to most was the introduction of solid foods.  I was so excited I must have bought at least 2 of everything b/4 we started!  The first thing I tried was bananas - I know, I know, everyone says start with the veggies first b/c those are the ones they'll dislike the most - and the look on Grayson's face was priceless! he did NOT enjoy them.  I didn't understand, every baby I had ever had the pleasure of feeding LOVED bananas right off the bat! that should have been my first clue that things were not going to go how I had planned.  So we did that 3 day rule.  The next thing I tried was carrots... they were a HUGE success!!! So to make a long story short we went back and forth between veggies and fruit.  The veggies he loved, the fruit he wanted nothing to do with! WTF? So when we saw the paediatrician in Hamilton a few weeks ago I voiced my concerns...  He said to just pick one fruit and give it to him every day, and eventually he'd develop a taste for it.

So this past weekend I bought a huge jar of applesauce (unsweetened of course) and gave it a go.  Wouldn't you know it, the little bugger has been eating more and more of it each day.  I had read about that 10x rule, where "they" say it may take ten tries for your child to like something.  But they are so unspecific... do they mean 10 spoonfuls? 10 days in a row, 10 times sporadically? I have since stopped reading baby books and looking things up on the web.

So here's what I have taken away from this situation... a) my child is going to do the opposite of every other child i have come across, that's just the way my luck goes.  b) what works for some doesn't work for all. c) don't give up!! I had that phrase stuck in my head when i got frustrated 'you tried and failed, the lesson here... never try'

I have since stopped listening to Homer Simpson ;)

NKOTBSB!!

As a new mom I find I don't get many opportunities to 'hit the town' so when a friend said she had fifth row NKOTBSB tickets and did I want one?  i JUMPED at the chance!!!

The concert was this past Saturday and it was fantastic! Matthew Morrison (Mr. Shue from Glee) opened and he was AMAZING!! He even did my favourite song of his from Glee!  During another one of his songs, as I was like the only person standing in my section he actually looked and pointed at ME! *insert girly squeal of delight here* I felt like I was 16 again!! It was fantastic! to say i wanted to run away with him at that moment would be an understatement!

He was done, the lights came on and the crew started to take down his set and start setting up for the main event.  So we're all sitting there wondering what songs they're going to do, if BSB is going to be any good ( i was the only one excited to see them) etc.  Then the lights when off... IT'S STARTING!!!!!   They all came out together and did a song and then it was a back and forth kinda show which was nice. The show was amazing and both bands lived up to my expectations.  And the fact that we were fifth row, well that didn't hurt either! We could actually feel the heat coming off some of the fire effects! We could see nose hairs for crying out loud!!!!

Everything was going great (besides the fact that my camera battery died.  thank goodness i brought my iPhone, and my memory card filled up.  I had to delete pics of Grayson to get more NKOTBSB! mother of the year over here! ) until like the last 45 min of the show...

a picture is worth 1000 words or in this case 2 letters 'DD'

I just happened to snap this picture but didn't realize what was happening at the moment... turns out some chick 1 row behind us and about 5 seats down flashed the boys.  and I mean flashed!! She had these HUGE fake stripper boobs! And ok, normally i wouldn't be so upset about something like that, i'm sure it happens all the time at their concerts, but it KEPT happening!!! Nick or Danny or Howie would repeatedly go over here, or bring one of the other guys with them to show them what was happening!  She was doing it on command! classless? i think so!!  If i had wanted to watch guys leer at a pair of oversized fake boobs I could have saved myself about $100 and gone to a strip club for crying out loud! Needless to say I was unimpressed, and it totally ruined the rest of the evening for me!!

Oh well, just another reason to be thankful that I didn't have a girl!

first time...

ok, so... I've never blogged b/4.  At 29 *shudder* i didn't think that i would have many firsts left... I guess I was wrong.  Also, I'm not the best writer either, so please keep that in mind if you choose to follow me.

I decided to start a blog b/c a friend on facebook suggested it.  She said she enjoyed my take on motherhood and thought i should give blogging a try.  So here goes...

Motherhood is not at all what they tell you it's going to be.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my son more than anything in this whole world.  I just wish I had been better prepared for what was to come.

Grayson was born in November and first few months went by in a blur for me, and I'm sure most new mother's would agree.  We've had our ups and down with Grayson.  He was really sick in February and was admitted to the hospital over night. What a friggin nightmare that was! Then we were back into the hospital at the beginning of March and then again at the beginning of May.  This last time we trekked it out to Hamilton and the got the answers we were looking for (it's worth the drive ppl!!!) To say everything has calmed down and been great would stretching it...

My lovely little boy doesn't sleep. He naps like a champ during the day, but come nighttime, the little bugger won't sleep for more than 3 hours at a time!!!  he's also been teething since he was about 2.5-3 months.  He had his first tooth at his 3 month checkup.  I swear every time I look in this kids mouth he's got another friggin tooth!! He's got 7 at the moment with another one coming up! We just can't seem to get a break from it!!!

He's also the crankiest little bugger I've met!! Everyone I know who has recently had a baby has a happy, bubbly little angel who smiles and laughs all the time (and sleeps thru the night).  Not my child, oh no! I practically have to put on a broadway show just to get this kid to giggle or crack a smile! But when he does smile and laugh my heart just melts and I remember why I wanted to become a mom.

He's 8.5 months now and on the verge of crawling.  He can take a few crawls? steps? and then he's flat on his belly.  It wont be long now... and then I'll really be busy...
